Another person got killed for being different. Big deal, shut up, move on. Let what's left of the victim's family grieve in peace, stop being outraged when you're part of the problem.
In some circles I have a reputation for shooting my mouth off without thinking.
Here's what I say in reply to it.
I can think and think and think and say something astoundingly astute and informed and people will still decide I'm talking nonsense so don't jerk around with dumbass comments.
The irony, I'm sure, is exquisite. Bottom line: people don't care.
You're going to go through life experiencing a lot of disappointment because you have this misplaced optimism about people. Someone will decide that he doesn't like you, and no amount of intimate knowledge or familiarity with you will change his mind. He'll dislike you because he -wants- to.
It's -easier- that way. People like things easy. They hate things that challenge their worldview. And don't try to tell me I'm wrong because I'm not. It's easier not to care.
And you probably aren't listening, which perfectly illustrates my point.
Personally, I don't want to care, either, save for an overwhelming desire to tell people to shut up and stop whining every time someone posts something about a "tragedy" just because someone got killed for being different. Doesn't seem to matter that it's happening all the time from gangs, from small groups of like-minded people, even birth defects and disease or allergies.
It took no fewer than 89 years to abolish slavery in the United States. And it took 102 years after that to stop treating blacks like inferior citizens--actually the clock is -still- running on that one. You're dealing with people who have traditional upbringings and are having social reforms tossed at them left and right without any letup in between.
There's only so much that can be tolerated and sooner or later people are going to react violently, perhaps even murderously. And little pricks like you whining about every 'tragedy' isn't helping.
So shut up, stop whining, move on.
If you want to help, do so by not getting involved. The vast majority of us can only be a hindrance, not an aid.
<FM> People want to feel they're part of the solution rather than part of the problem, even if their only real skill is having a blog and yelling a lot.
<Sol`Kada> Well there isn't a solution.
<Sol`Kada> There is only the problem and they are part of it.
<FM> I don't even bother trying to yell at stupid people, usually, unless it's my close friends being stupid and thus I have a chance of convincing them.
<FM> You really shouldn't even bother telling them they're wrong. They won't learn, and they'll just hate you more.
<FM> Better to let society prove them wrong in the long run and do something fun in the meantime.
